The recording unit: a camera on a pallet frame.
Any forklift already working your site picks it up, drives the aisle and sets it down again. Nothing is fitted to the vehicle, nothing is installed in the building, and full warranty and support are included in the annual fee.
What it is
One piece of equipment, and it is not a vehicle.
The unit holds the camera, the lighting and the processing needed to read a bay of racking as a forklift passes it. It does not drive, steer, fly or charge itself. It is carried.
- A self contained camera enclosure on a pallet style frame. The frame is the interface to the forklift, so lifting the unit is the same action as lifting a pallet. No adapter, no fitting, no training in how to attach it.
- Any forklift can lift it. Counter balance truck, reach truck, whatever runs the aisle you want counted. It is not assigned to one vehicle, so it moves between forklifts during a shift and between sites during a rollout.
- Nothing is fitted to the vehicle. No brackets welded on, no cab wiring, no power tap, no forklift out of service for installation, and no per forklift licence. When the count is finished the forklift is a forklift again.
- Nothing is installed in the building. No anchors, no reflectors, no markers on the racking, no charging bay to build, no network hardware to commission. There is nothing to remove if you move warehouse.
- It reads the labels you already print. The unit is taught your label format during calibration. Sites do not relabel stock or add codes to the racking to make counting work.
- Full warranty and ongoing support are included. Both sit inside the annual fee rather than being a service contract on equipment you own, because you do not own it.

Three figures to plan around
- It works in a freezer. Do not leave it in one. The unit operates down to minus 20 °C, but its storage range stops at 0 °C. So it counts a frozen aisle and then comes back out to a tempered area for the night and for charging. Plan a parking spot above freezing before you plan the count, and read cold chain and frozen for how sites actually run this.
- 104 kg net, which is why a forklift lifts it. This is not a device anyone carries, and it is not meant to be. The mass buys the 200 Ah battery that gives eight hours of counting and the on board computer that processes the run, and it makes the frame stable enough to hold focus at 1.5 m while a forklift moves down an aisle. A forklift lifting 104 kg is a forklift doing nothing unusual.
- 2 TB of storage at 3 GB per minute is about 11 hours of recording. That sits comfortably above the eight hour operating time, so the battery runs out before the disk does. You will not lose the back half of a shift to a full drive.
Aisles and racking height
Aisle width and racking height are limited only by forklift accessibility. If a forklift can get down the aisle and reach the level, the unit can record it. Wide aisle and narrow aisle are both supported, and racking height is a question of the forklift's lift rather than of the camera, because the unit is raised to each level in turn and reads one level at a time. There is no camera side minimum aisle width, because the constraint is the vehicle you already run.

Where it runs today
Because the unit rides on a forklift, it inherits whatever that forklift already tolerates. This is the practical reason it works in buildings that defeat airborne counting.
Ten live sites across Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium and Poland run the same unit, from a 5,000 location manufacturing store to 85,000 combined locations across two Dutch sites. The pharma site in Geel counts dry, ambient and frozen stock down to minus 23 degrees in one building and reached 99.99%+ accuracy after go live.

The unit is rated to minus 20 °C and will operate down to minus 30 °C for up to an hour at a time, which is what a deep frozen aisle actually asks of it. Storage is a different limit: 0 °C to plus 40 °C, so the unit lives outside the freezer between runs.

The design decision
What the unit deliberately does not have.
Every capability the unit does not have is a cost it does not create: no route to map, no charging bay to build, no asset to depreciate.
No drive train, no navigation
The forklift already knows the aisle and the driver already knows the site. Nothing has to be mapped, taught a route, or kept clear of pedestrians as a separate hazard.
No home, no charging bay
There is no docking position to build and no floor space to give up. The unit is stored the way a piece of equipment is stored.
No asset on your balance sheet
You are not buying a machine, so there is no capital equipment required, no depreciation schedule and no residual value question in five years.
The unit cannot count without a forklift and a driver, and that is a cost an autonomous vehicle does not have.
Where labour is scarce, or aisles are unmanned at night, a drone or a ground robot counting unattended is the better fit. What the carried unit trades that driver time for is a five day deployment, no hardware to own, no facility change and zero integration effort to start. More than one unit
Extra capacity for a peak, without buying it.
One unit covers a site. When a season doubles the counting load, a second unit is a rental rather than a purchase.

Questions about the hardware
What operations teams ask first.
Do we have to dedicate a forklift to it?
No. The unit is lifted by whichever forklift is free, and set down when the run is finished. A 20 minute run covering 500 to 1,000 pallets is normally driven during a break, so no forklift is taken out of service for counting.
What happens if the unit is damaged?
Full warranty and ongoing support are included in the annual fee, so a damaged unit is replaced or repaired without a capital charge. Lead time on a replacement unit is 2 to 4 weeks. If counting cannot wait that long, a Peak rental unit at €5,760 a month covers the gap, and how accidental damage is treated is set out in your service agreement.
Can one unit cover more than one warehouse?
Yes, where the sites are close enough to move it between them, because nothing is fitted to a vehicle or a building. Network pricing is per site and assumes a unit per site, and the Peak rental covers a temporary second unit.
Does it need our wifi?
No. The unit connects over gigabit ethernet, RJ45, and it processes recordings live as the run happens rather than uploading them and queuing for a result. Results are available shortly after the run completes, so a 20 minute count does not become an overnight job. It is not an upload then wait model, and there is no bandwidth budget to negotiate because nothing leaves your site: all storage and all processing are on premise. How narrow can our aisles be, and how high can the racking go?
Both are limited only by forklift accessibility. Wide aisle and narrow aisle are both supported, and racking height is set by the forklift's lift rather than by the camera, because the unit is raised to each level in turn and reads one level at a time. If a forklift can get down the aisle and reach the level, the unit can record it.
