Counting without a WMS.
You do not need a warehouse management system to use Sentispec Inventory. If your stock lives in an ERP, in a spreadsheet, or only in the heads of the people who work there, the first count is still the thing that fixes it.
When your records are the weakest part of the operation
Most stocktaking projects assume the record is broadly right and the job is to check it. Where the record is a spreadsheet somebody maintains by hand, that assumption is the problem, and a reconciliation against it inherits every error it already contains.
A first drive does not check the record, it replaces it, and every line of it is evidenced. That is also why this matters during a warehouse move, when the system of record and the physical reality diverge fastest. Counting through a move is a job of its own.
What you still get
- An export you own, in a form you can load into whatever system you adopt next, so the first count is never stranded inside ours.
- A list an auditor can sample, because every line carries the image that produced it rather than a note about it.
- The empty positions as well, which is the capacity number a hand maintained spreadsheet almost never holds.
- Reconciliation from the second count onwards, against a record your own first drive produced.
Live sites run this way. Sentispec has customers counting without a warehouse management system, exchanging stock data from whatever holds it and running discrepancy analysis on that. The file layout and the field mapping are confirmed with whoever owns the data at your site during the five day deployment, which is the same day two step a site with a full WMS goes through.
What file format do you need?
A pallet identifier and a location per row, in a CSV or spreadsheet. Anything your team can export in a few minutes will do, and the field mapping is validated on day 2 of the five day deployment.
Can we start without a WMS and connect one later?
Yes. Sites commonly start with a file exchange and connect the standard API months later, once a WMS project lands. Nothing about the counting changes, and there is no migration.
Do our labels need to be barcoded?
The unit is taught to read the labels you already use. If your pallets carry no identifier at all, that is a labelling conversation before a counting one, and it is worth having on the call.
