Continuous counting, not an annual event
An annual wall to wall count tells you how wrong the book was on one day of the year. Continuous cycle counting replaces that with counts that run through the year, so a location that has drifted gets caught in weeks, not at the next scheduled shutdown. A run costs 20 minutes for 500 to 1,000 pallets rather than a day of labour. That turns how often a location gets counted by its ABC class from a resourcing trade off into a policy you set, not one the headcount sets for you.
Splitting the difference four ways is what makes root cause work possible at all. Knowing you are a few percent out tells you nothing. Can we count different locations at different frequencies?
Yes. Because a run is 20 minutes for 500 to 1,000 pallets rather than a scheduled shutdown, high value or fast moving ABC classes can be counted far more often than slow moving stock, without the resourcing trade off a manual cycle count forces.
How do we know why a discrepancy happened, not just that it did?
Every discrepancy is one of four reported types: wrong location, not in the WMS, empty when stock is expected, or missing from the recording, and each one links to the recording that found it, so you can see the pallet or the empty bay directly.
Does this replace our annual count entirely?
